Creating Destinations for Good

At Roa we care deeply about the long-term sustainability of Wānaka because it’s where we live. That means creating a built environment where spaces can adapt and evolve, with collective good as the priority. We masterplan and deliver regionally significant community infrastructure that embraces and strengthens Wānaka’s unique sense of place, through considered design and some of the highest sustainability standards anywhere in the world.

Environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance is a critical metric driving our long-term objectives. To help us on this journey we are working closely with Toitū Envirocare to put strategies in place to manage, accurately audit and continually reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and carbon impact.

Andrew Shaw

Executive Chairman

Andew’s vision for Roa is to build a portfolio of world class genuinely carbon zero commercial buildings. He’s a UK native whose business interests have included an international tax consultancy, hotels, wineries, vineyards and manufacturing. An interest in residential property development led to converting a series of commercial buildings for residential use including a fire station, hospital and bank. More recently he’s been involved in sustainably developing disused brown fields land in the UK and now enjoys the challenge of Roa’s green fields projects. It was wine that first drew him to New Zealand, he was involved in businesses here over many years before settling in Wānaka. Motivated by the rapid change occurring in the town, Andrew wants to help ensure what’s developed now is sustainable.
